To Blog or Not to Blog that is the Question #writerslife #blogging

Cup Of Hot Black Coffee With Steam And Notebook

It seems like social media outlets/forms ebb and flow in popularity. I started blogging 5 years ago, I think? Blogs were popular. Everyone had a blog for everything. There were cooking blogs, mommy blogs, writing blogs, pet blogs etc. Now I’ve noticed that unless the said blog had a large following and was well-established then many of these blogs are disappearing.

Many of my author friends have either closed their blogs or are thinking of closing their blogs. There is only so much time in the day. It is possible to do promotion 24/7 and never write another book. Not a wise choice! So obviously something had to give. I understand their choice, but I still love my blog.

I do not blog as much as I used to. I don’t even blog to a certain schedule. If that annoys my readers then I’m sorry. I started blogging to chronicle my experiences, my accomplishments, and occasionally I share what little spotlight my site has to offer with friends and colleagues.

I’ve had several authors suggest that I close my blog and switch to sending out newsletters. Why do I like blogging as opposed to newsletters? Blogging is more personal. Not every blog post is begging readers to buy my book. I’ve subscribed to many author newsletters and I only get an email when they have a sale or new release. While it is good to know these things, I wish I knew more about them. I wish I knew the writer the person and not just the writer the professional.

I don’t plan on closing my blog anytime soon. When I feel like I have something to say or share I will post. Feel people comment on blogs these days. Most of the time I seem to blog to a bunch of silence. I’ve finally made peace with that. After all, I don’t comment on most of the blogs I read, so why should I expect anything different?

Blogging is another form of expression. Since I’ve failed every time I’ve tried to keep a journal this is the next best thing. Seriously since I was like 8 my friends, family, neighbors all thought getting me journals for my birthday and Christmas would be a wonderful idea. I don’t think I even managed to keep one going consistently for two weeks. Amazing right? I much prefer to write about characters than myself. I guess I’m humble that way. I don’t like to take the spotlight even in my own life, lol. Blogging has been the closest thing to a journal I’ve gotten. It seems to work for me. As long as it works I’m going to continue.
